The Itinerary
Aug. 31 - Depart London/Dover, England. For centuries, Dover has been a symbol of England’s royal fortitude. The port’s legendary White Cliffs have long been a welcomed landmark for seafaring travelers. Arrive early and spend time visiting London’s legendary sights including Westminster Abbey, Big Ben, Parliament Square, Whitehall and the fashionable West End...just 80 miles from historic Dover.
Sept. 1 - Guernsey/St. Peter Port, Channel Islands. Charming Guernsey, a mere 25 square miles in size, offers a host of enticing visitor attractions. Although geographically closer to France, it has remained staunchly British through the ages. Today, its diverse culture reflects the best of both worlds. Pastel-colored houses rise layer upon layer behind St. Peter Port, the island’s picturesque main town. Beyond, you discover a wealth of activities centering around goldsmiths, silversmiths, wood carvers and clockmakers.
Sept. 2 - cruising the Bay of Biscay
Sept. 3 and 4 - Bordeaux, France. Bordeaux was at one time France’s richest community and largest port. It is second only to Paris as the country's most densely populated city. Today it is best-known for its glorious châteaux, mouth-watering cuisine and incomparable wines. It is surrounded by the world’s most famous vineyards including Médoc, St-Emilion, Pomerol, Graves and Sauternes. Crystal’s sojourn in this world-renowned wine capital is bound to please even the most discerning bon vivant.
Sept. 5 - cruising the English Channel
Sept. 6 and 7 - Amsterdam, Netherlands. Amsterdam is a beautifully preserved city with quaint architectural styles, priceless art treasures and welcoming people. Many of its wondrous highlights are located within the five concentric canals that gird the city’s older neighborhoods and business districts. Whether cruising its waterways or visiting its exquisite galleries and museums, you will discover a wealth of fascinating sightseeing opportunities. A short drive away, characteristic towns preserve their traditional Dutch ways with intricate national costumes, sturdy wooden shoes and purposeful windmills.
Sept. 8 - Hamburg, Germany. Hamburg is often called the Green City. In fact, as much as 22% of the cityscape is graced with historic gardens and inviting parks. Hamburg is also a water city, boasting a location on the Alster and Elbe, with a network of waterways and bridges that rivals Venice. Indeed, 8% of the city is water, and Hamburg has more bridges than the famed Italian city. Few places in the world offer sailing and boating in the middle of town. Add first-rate shopping, world-class theatrical and musical events, and historic architecture, and you have a truly extraordinary city with innumerable ways to pass the time.
Sept. 9 - disembark Hamburg
