July 29: Barcelona, Spain. Hometown of Picasso, Miró, Dali,Casals and Gaudí and described as a Mediterranean Manhattan, an experimental center for political ideas and artistic movements.

July 30: Palamós, Spain. One of Spain’s most beautiful coastal towns, retaining much historical architecture and charm while embracing modern times with gusto. A mecca for seafood lovers!

July 31: Cruising the Mediterranean.

Aug. 1: Cannes, France. Beneath a panorama of mountain peaks and scenic villages, Nice, Monte Carlo and St-Tropez flaunt the wealth of the glittering French Riviera.

Once a Greek port conquered by the Romans, Monte Carlo was bought from the city-state of Genoa in 1309 by the Grimaldis, who still rule as the world’s oldest monarchy. Monaco covers less than one square mile and is known worldwide for its magnificent Grand Casino.

Aug. 4: Florence/Livorno, Italy. Livorno is the bustling, pleasant gateway to Florence, Pisa, and...Incomparable Florence’s wealth of architectural and artistic treasures includes works by Raphael, da Vinci, Botticelli and Michelangelo. It’s a city of grace and beauty.

Aug. 5: Porto Venere, Italy. Here is an idyllic medieval town: two ancient churches, a 16th-century castle, a bell tower built over of a Roman temple, and grand views of sea and mountains.

Aug. 6: Rome/Civitavecchia, Italy. The Colosseum, Forum, Pantheon, Vatican, Sistine Chapel and Spanish Steps transport the visitor into Rome’s past. Filled with energy and creativity, today’s Rome is just as fascinating and many-faceted.
