The Itinerary

May 8: Depart Monte Carlo, Monaco. The tiny, wealthy Principality of Monaco would fit comfortably inside New York's Central Park. Into the gold-leaf splendor of the fabulous and famous Casino, the hopeful enter to tempt fate beneath the gilt-edge Rococo ceiling.

May 9: At sea.

May 10: Cartagena, Spain. A tour of this ancient, busy port features fabulous sightseeing—architecture dating from Roman times and a contemporary Museum of Motorcycles!

May 11: Malaga, Spain. The city of Málaga and the surrounding region of Andalusia exhibit vivid contrasts. The Moorish influence shows in some of its most stunning attractions.

May 12: Portimao, Portugal. There’s excellent shopping in Portimao. Consider taking a dramatic coastal excursion or visit nearby sites like the capital of the Moorish kings at Lagos and Silves.

May 13: Lisbon, Portugal. To prepare for its role as host of the World Exposition in 1998, Lisbon beautified its public buildings, overhauled its metro system, and completed an impressive bridge across the Rio Tejo, but Lisbon’s intrinsic, slightly disorganized, one-of-a-kind charm hasn’t vanished in the contemporary mix.

May 14: At sea.

May 15: Santander, Spain. This is a new port of call for Silversea. There’s lots to see—The Cathedral of Santander, The Palacio de la Magdalena, and the Lighthouse of Cabo Mayor.

May 16-17: Bordeaux, France. If you’re a wine lover, this is the entrance to paradise. Our overnight stay will give us plenty of time for tasting, museum-going, shopping, and strolling.

May 18: At sea.

May 19: St. Peter Port, Guernsey, Channel Islands (U.K.) With its sister island of Jersey, Guernsey has been part of Britain since 1066. Start your visit at St. Peter’s Church and the 12th-century castle, then take a ride through the idyllic countryside or stroll the narrow streets of pretty St. Peter Port.

May 20: Rouen, France. Rouen is an interesting mix of medieval and modern architecture. The city’s greatest attraction is its historic center, and many of its important edifices are churches. Dominating the large central square is the magnificent Notre-Dame Cathedral, a masterpiece of French Gothic architecture, famously painted by Claude Monet. Rouen is also gateway to Paris, only 1.5 hours away by train.
