The Itinerary
Oct. 16, 2012 - Depart Rome (Civitavecchia). Have time before your cruise? This is incomparable Rome: the Forum, the Coliseum, St. Peter’s Basilica with Michelangelo's Pietà and his breathtaking frescoes in the Sistine Chapel, the vivid trattorias, the shopping—it’s endlessly wonderful. Let Alice Travel arrange a pre-cruise hotel.
Oct. 17, 2012 - Sorrento/Capri. A day in Capri, with its stunning panoramas, villages, charming piazzas and the Villa San Michele, makes a charming diversion. Visit the ruins at Pompeii to see life as it was lived at a wealthy resort town in ancient times.
Oct. 18, 2012 - Amalfi/Positano. Visit seaside Amalfi to admire the 12th century Capuchin monastery and the beautiful 11th century cathedral and cloister. Then discover chic Positano with its relaxed, sophisticated air and white Moorish-style houses clinging to steep slopes around a sparkling bay filled with colorful fishing boats.
Oct. 19, 2012 - Florence/Pisa (Livorno). Livorno is your entry point to Pisa and Florence, where the Renaissance was born. See Brunelleschi’s great dome, Michelangelo’s David, the bridges over the Arno and the Uffizi Gallery. Visit Pisa's superb Campo dei Miracoli and its cathedral and famed leaning campanile.
Oct. 20, 2012 - Portofino. There could hardly be a more scenic pleasure excursion than a casual stroll through Portofino and neighboring Santa Margherita. The local shops and boutiques are delightful, and the seafood and wines delicious.
Oct. 21, 2012 - Monte Carlo, Monaco. A trip along the Grand Corniche provides stunning views of Monaco and the Old City; then stroll through this marvelous quarter and its pink Grimaldi Palace. And there’s the great, gilded Casino, as glamorous as it is famous.
Oct. 22, 2012 - St-Tropez, France. Get out into the hilly Provençal countryside and its charming villages with their narrow stepped streets, lovely churches and scenic views.
Oct. 23, 2012 - Provence (Marseille). Historic Marseille is rich in fascinating sights and restaurants featuring the tangy local cuisine and wines. Shop for the famous local lavender, leathers, and Provençal art and ceramics.
Oct. 24-25, 2012 - Ibiza, Spain (overnight). Nautica’s overnight stay gives plenty of time for both bridge and sightseeing in this very beautiful island. The coastline is majestically rugged, and the hills covered with olive and fig trees. The capital of Ciudad de Ibiza offers a multitude of diversions, especially in the historic Dalt Vila district. Visit the 16th century Castle of Ibiza, the churches and Museum of Contemporary Art inside the fortified walls.
Oct. 26, 2012 - Barcelona. This lovely, trendy city offers the amazing La Sagrada Familia, Antoni Gaudí’s unfinished masterpiece. Enjoy the lovely Montjuic Gardens, Gaudí’s other amazing structures, the charming squares of the old Gothic Quarter and the Ramblas, Barcelona’s famed downtown promenade.
